Vinyasa Yoga - Mysore style classes
Ashtanga Vinyasa is a very popular style yoga, even artists
such as Madonna and Sting are practicing this form of yoga.
The first series of Ashtanga Yoga is called Yoga “Chikitsa”,
which means therapy. This Yoga cleanses and detoxifies the
body, improves the digestive system and *balances and purifies
the internal organs. Yoga Chikitsa produces a light, strong
body.
The Mysore teaching method encourages and develops a self
practice this allows the advanced and beginner students to
coexist in the same class. The instructor serves as a coach
who analyzes the students practice and gives adjustments and
guidance as they progress. The beginner is initiated with
a small set of poses and the number of poses increase as the
student gets more fluent and deeper into the practice.
This Mysore style of yoga was introduced by Sri K. Pattabi
Jois who has been teaching yoga in Mysore, India as well as
all over the world for over sixty years. Sri K. Pattabi Jois
prescribes practicing Ashtanga six days a week before sunrise.
One day a week is set aside for rest as well as the days of
the full moon and new moon.
Winter Park Yoga offers the traditional Mysore style classes
just as they are taught in India. Classes are offered six
days a week and no classes on the full or new moon.

What you need to know about attending
Mysore style Yoga class.
Unlike a contemporary led Ashtanga class where everyone begins
and ends at the same time, in Mysore style you won't need
to worry about being a few minutes late. You can come and
begin your practice anywhere between 6:00am and 7:30am. The
studio will be open with an instructor available to you until
9:00am so you will have plenty of time to finish the series.
New and beginner students to the Mysore yoga class should
arrange a meeting or at lease speak to the instructor to discuss
the practice and decide on the best time for your arrival.
This will allow the instructor extra time for any questions
that you may have.
It is best to practice more than three times a week, therefore
Winter Park Yoga is offering special montly rates for the
Mysore class. If more that three times a week is just not
possible at this time in your journey, then please take advantage
of our regular class rates, the more you buy at one time,
the more affordable it becomes.
There
will be no Mysore Classes held on the new moon or the full
moon. Please check the schedule below for the new and full
moon schedule.
